In mid-October, I will be going away on a cruise for my friend’s Bachelorette party. I’m super excited to go and looking forward to the cruise, but this morning I was thinking about what books to bring with me!
Some people think cruise and automatically think girlie reads. I’m not much of a chick-lit fan, and while I might read a chick-lit occasionally, it’s just not my thing.
When I think of a vacation, especially a cruise, I think of reading something that I am dying to read!
Here are some of my top choices for this trip:
The Shoemaker’s Wife by Adriana Trigiani – I’ve loved all of her other books and heard great things about this one as well!
Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood – Atwood is amazing and this book is partially about jail, so perfect!
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – Too many book reviewers are saying this is a must-read!
The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan – A book written all in dictionary definitions? Sounds super interesting!

Usually when I go on vacation I bring books but never really get much reading accomplished.
I have nit read Alias Grace but I love Margaret Atwood, so I would vote for her book!

Some times you remind me so much of myself that it’s scary 😉 When people talk about “beach reads” or “summer books” I always think, huh? I read what I read when I wanna read it! But enough about me, lol.
I vote for either Gone Girl or The Shoemaker’s Wife because I’ve heard wonderful things about the both of them.

I am just going to probably end up with all of them! But Gone Girl and The Shoemaker’s Wife are on my top 2 “I have to read these NOW” list. The Age of Miracles was, too, but I just finished that a few minutes ago, so I can cross it off my list!
And honestly, I thought about our similarities with your “voice” post! 🙂

I’m one of those people who doesn’t really categorize my reading–I just read what I want whenever I want. I would take War & Peace to the beach, if I felt like it. Haha!

Love it! Beach read should not = chick lit. It should be whatever you want to read at the beach!
I just always end up taking too many books on a trip because of the “what if I finish and don’t have another book to read????” But that’s the best thing about e-readers! I can have tons of books with me that way. Although I’m a back and forth e-reader. I do a digital read and then miss my physical books, so I have to switch back and forth.

I love my e-reader for travel, too. I read more treebooks, but the e-reader has been my savior for travel purposes.

Oh I like that word: Treebooks! That makes it very clear what you’re reading. I agree with you completely! My e-reader is supplemental to treebooks!

I liked Alias Grace. It is one of the few Margaret Atwood’s books that I really enjoyed. Oryx & Crake drove me crazy, but I did finish it!

I loved Oryx and Crake! I actually really want to read The Year of the Flood, which is the O&C sequel.
I am waiting to borrow Alias Grace from the digital library. Margaret Atwood is just such a good author!
