Boston Public Library

As many of you know, I’ve been able to explore many libraries due to my luck at being able to travel.  Recently, I got to check out the Boston Public Library, which, by the way, is HUGE!

Right when you walk in, on the floor. BTW, people were so annoyed that I stopped to take a picture since I totally was blocking the entrance! Oh well!

Beautiful courtyard in the middle of the library - would be so perfect to sit and read there on a warmer day!

There were so many other things not pictured, like an entire room of old maps (something that I know my friend Stephanie would have loved), plus some rooms with beautiful winding staircases, a cafe, and more!

Thanks for reading,

Rebecca

  1. Wow it’s so beautiful!! We use to have a big historical library (where Nelson Mandela made his first speech after being released from prison) but they moved the library to the building next door. Thanks for sharing 😉

  2. Gorgeous! When my husband and I were in Boston two years ago, we didn’t get the chance to see the library (we make a point of seeing the library/libraries in any city we visit on vacation). Thanks to these pictures, we will definitely visit the library when we (hopefully) go again this year (if my husband makes it into a piano competition there). Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures!

  3. Now that is a place to read books in, the library near me is a place for people to go on computers and and tramps to keep warm. There are a lot of people reading trashy tabloids but not many reading, I think the pub is better place to read these days.

  4. I only got to spend a few minutes in the Boston Public Library when I was there over the summer, but I did stumble upon that courtyard! It was so lovely, I wished I had more time to relax with a book and a cup of coffee!

  5. What a beautiful library! I love that outdoor atrium for reading in warmer weather. Makes me want to trek into Philly to go to the Philadelphia Free Public Library. Haven’t been back there in a few years since moving to the ‘burbs. I love my quaint little local libraries, but I do miss the special, mysterious magic of the old, grand library. Thanks for the inspiration and for sharing your great photos. Hope you post some pictures of those spiral staircases in the future – love those! -Ilene

  6. Absolutely beautiful, puts every library I’ve been to to shame, including old university libraries. If you get weird reactions when wanting to take a photo, if you’re with someone discuss with them about how you’re doing it for a blog 😉 It might be annoying, but enough people take photographs.
