Weekday Read-a-thon:
Hosted by the fabulous Love at First Book (that’s me!) and the super amazing The Book Wheel (that’s Allison!)
#WeekdayRead
Starting this morning at 6:00am (or whenever you wake up) is our first ever Weekday Read-a-thon!
We know that a lot of people are busy on the weekends with kids, family, studying, or work, so we want to make sure that they don’t miss out on all of the fun! This read-a-thon is a few days before the big Dewey’s 24-hour Read-a-thon, so this is a great way to get prepared if you are planning to participate in it.
Basically, the point is to read for at least 5 minutes longer than on a normal day! Sounds easy enough right? If you can fit more reading time in, go for it!
Here are some tips to help you out:
- Plan ahead with your food, grab those snacks you might want during the time you’ll be reading so you don’t have to scramble later on
- Prepare your drinks too! Coffee? Soda? Juice? Wine? Whatever you’ll need, make sure you have it!
- Decide what books you’re going to be reading. Short stories? Classics? A loooooong book? Make it a variety and you’ll stay interested for longer.
- Take a break. If you’re reading for an extended period of time, switch things up with a walk outside, a trip to the gym, a nap, even our Twitter chats! The point is to read more, but you need breaks, too.
Check out my plan for the Weekday Read-a-thon and Allison’s plan!
We’ll be checking in throughout the day with some Twitter chats: #WeekdayRead
The checkins will be at 2:00pm, 9:00pm, and Midnight (EST)
We also have some fabulous giveaways!
We have some AMAZING things to give out, including some bookish jewelry from Suzanne Weinerts and Designs by Venita, and a bunch of books! We’re going to extend the giveaway entries through the weekend so that those participating in the Dewey Read-a-thon have a chance to enter.
Be sure to come back to the main Weekday Read-a-thon page (and on Allison’s blog, too!) to let us know how you’re doing!
Thanks for reading,
Have fun! Looking forward to your updates!

It happens! But if you can add more reading time to your day that is always worthwhile!

Good!!! I’m still getting the hang of it! For the chats, it is easier to use tweetchat.com, and type in the hashtag: WeekdayRead
It helps! 🙂

I was so confident that I would fit so much more reading in today since it is my day off. Silly me – I scheduled appointments, did some extra work, finished a project – but carried my kindle with me all day, so got some extra in during the day. I usually only get to read at night, so I’m ahead of the game! Looking forward to getting back to it soon so that I can say I added more than 5 minutes to my usual day. 🙂 Thanks for hosting!

It happens! But I’m glad you got some time in!! Carrying your book or Kindle with you really does seem to help, because then you can pull it out for at least 5 min at a time!
