It’s very hard to review the second book in a trilogy without giving spoilers.
So I’ll tell you what: I won’t review it. I’ll just tell you a few things that won’t give anything away, and then you’ll just be so interested, you’ll get the series.
Or at least books 1 (Divergent) and 2 (Insurgent) since 3 (Allegiant) isn’t out yet.
Anyway, Insurgent is the second book in the Divergent trilogy. The series is YA dystopian, with people divided into different factions based on personality traits.
Insurgent continues on with the story from the first book, and is no less entertaining than the first. Seriously, I am so excited for the third book to come out.
Here are two quotes, that piqued my interest, and which in no way give away anything from the story:
- “It is for the sake of peace that we remain uninvolved” – I can’t tell you who said this, but it kind of reminded me of the conundrum that countries faced during WWII or even when thinking of bullying. Is it peaceful to remain uninvolved if something bad is happening? I don’t think so.
- “Sometimes I feel like I am collecting the lessons each faction has to teach me, and storing them in my mind like a guidebook for moving through the world. There is always something to learn, always.” – Again, not going to mention the “who” but this quote really represents how I feel. I’m always interested in learning new and unique facts, trying to be a better person by looking at situations from multiple angles, hoping that in the end, I’ll be a better person for it. It kind of sums up myself as a reader.
Again, if you’re a fan of The Hunger Games trilogy, the Divergent trilogy is not to be missed!
Have you started reading the series yet?

I loved this series. Can’t wait for the third. Did you know they are supposedly making a Divergent movie???

I love the way you reviewed this book. I’ve read book 1 last week, but I actually didn’t like it that much (3/5 stars). Is the 2nd book better than the 1st in your opinion?

No, the first book was better for sure. You may want to read it anyway, if you’re going to check out the 3rd when it comes out, or you can wait and hear reviews from people once the third comes out about whether the series as a whole is worthwhile. I’m interested to know what you decide!

I haven’t yet and I don’t know if I want to … I held out forever on The Hunger Games too and then loved it. Will I love this one as much too?

It’s hard to say. I think so, but it has more mixed reviews than THG. Also, since the 3rd book hasn’t come out yet, I can’t say I LOVE the series. . . but I did love book 1 and really like book 2 (Insurgent).

The quotes are interesting, indeed, but I don’t think I’m going to read the series: first of all I have to read The hunger games!

Yes, THG is #1!

I haven’t read these yet, but since I liked The Hunger Games and a lot of the other dystopian books that have come out lately, I hope to get to it soon 🙂

re: my top two books of the summer:
The Signature of All Things is Victorian novel that’s incredibly well written and researched and Letters from Skye is a completely sappy love story that I just devoured! If you do read them, hope you enjoy! Signature was particularly excellent.

Another blogger recommended Letters from Skye, too, but I’m sooooo not a love story fan so I will have to skip it. But I’ll check out The Signature!

I can’t wait to check out the third novel soon and see how I feel about the series as a whole.

I really liked Divergent, but I thought Insurgent was really plodding. All of the time that Tris and Four were disagreeing made me just shake my head. The ending was exciting though, so I’m curious how that works out in the third book.

Yeah, it was not as strong as Divergent for sure! Tris was a stronger character in the first book but kind of weak in the second.

I’m gonna have to read Divergent! I also need to read The Hunger Games.

Hunger Games needs to be read first, for sure.

Cool review. I really liked this book, but the cliff hanger at the end kills me.

I loved Divergent and Insurgent! Can’t wait to read Allegient! I’m wondering how it will play out. I wasn’t sure how she was going to continue Insurgent!

Oh my gosh, I finished Allegiant, and there’s a lot to talk about! The formatting of the book is different, with the chapters being told by Tobias sometimes and Tris sometimes. I liked it alot.

Just now reading your review since I just read this book. I’m relived to see I was not the only one to review this book in this way. I thought there’s so little I can say without ruining it, why bother. But, I wanted to say something!

Haha, I know right? I didn’t even bother to review the 3rd book! I didn’t know how!
