The House Girl by Tara Conklin is a book I had been looking forward to reading and was excited when it showed up in my mailbox (Thank you, Dewey’s Read-a-thon, for sending me the prize I chose!).
For this book, I’m trying something new.
Here’s my summary of The House Girl by Tara Conklin, in only 18 words:
Dual narrative. Slave Josephine. Present-day Lawyer Lina. Was Josephine the artist? Can Lina help with slave reparations?
Now here’s my review, in 10 words:
Couldn’t stop reading. Add to TBR. Two thumbs way up.

A book review in only a certain amount of words – impressive! 🙂 I’ve had my eye on this one. Glad to hear it’s worth a read!

It is! And with this review format: I was getting a little bored with regular reviews, so I threw something a little challenging into the mix for this one 😀

It really was a great one. It’s light enough fiction that most people can relate to it, but heavy enough to keep you interested!

I have been hearing more positive things about this book. Though I am not very much interested in the slave period in the US I do like the idea behind this book. Might have to add it to my TBR. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Ciska, I think you would still find it enjoyable because of the dual narrative and dual story – half slave story but also half finding-out-the-truth story.

It’s a really good one. You’d like it probably as a light break in between heavies – it’s not a super light book or anything but on the light side for what you normally choose to read.
