The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion has been all over the book world recently. A ton of bloggers have read it, it’s a featured B&N book, and it was mentioned on a podcast I listened to recently.
But The Rosie Project is not just hype – it’s awesome.
Any fans of Sheldon Cooper out there? The main character of The Rosie Project, Don, is very similar. Don doesn’t realize it, but he has Asperger’s, which causes him to be a little socially inept and very strict with scheduling. What Don wants is a wife, so he plans to find one. . . Through the Wife Project. What is the Wife Project? Basically a super long questionnaire with which Don expects to find his wife.
But when his friend Gene sets him up with Rosie, Don is thrown for a loop.
I loved this novel. Don is hilarious, lovable, and super smart. Rosie is caring, spunky, and hilarious. The Rosie Project hides within it an unconventional love story, and one that is begging you to read it.
The only negative? The ending fell a teensy bit flat for me.

I just finished this book last night and loved it as well! I know what you mean about the ending though. I felt that too but I wasn’t sure if it was because I was reading it on the train and had to stop and restart the last 30 or so pages, so I kind of lost the momentum!

Totally agree. The book was so good but then the ending maybe should have happened a little bit earlier.

I’m glad you liked it! The ending was a little… abrupt. Not like horrible, but I agree it could have been engineered a little bit better. All in all though, big win for Rosie. Yay! 🙂 Thanks for playing along!

Yeah for sure. I think that the ending could have just been made better. It took my thoughts on the book from a 5 star to a 4, but still a fab book overall.

I absolutely love Big Bang Theory. If I read it, the Sheldon Cooper angle is what hooked me! Sounds just like the roommate and relationship agreements!

The whole time I was reading, I kept saying “Would Sheldon do that?” It was awesome.

I really need to get back to this one. I started reading it at night in little bits, and that wasn’t really enough to help me warm up to our version of Sheldon. hehe

Yeah, this is a read-it-all-at-once kind of book. Or at least reading big chunks at a time. Because Don is hard to “like” at first since he’s so deadpan, like Sheldon.

I was so on-board the first 2/3 of the novel- I loved the quirkiness, the perspective, and the general concept. But the last part just ended up being a bit too romantic-comedy for me. And the ending. Man.

You are so right. The first 5/6 of the book kept me hooked, but yes, the ending fell flat. Too love-story-like in the end.

It really is great. It recently was on sale on Kindle for $1.99, which is when I grabbed it. It might still be cheap, not sure.

From what I know about this book I find the character “Gene” ironic. But I haven’t read it yet so I could be wrong. I really want to read this one and the Sheldon reference is only increasing that desire. Glad it was worth the hype!
