When I started blogging on July 9, my husband thought it would be a nice idea to get me a few blogging books. I read about half of Blogging for Dummies by Susannah Gardner and Shane Birley, put it down, and then picked it back up again a week ago to finish the book.
I literally read this book from cover to cover. I had never read a Dummies book before, but I have been missing out!
Blogging for Dummies was filled with great facts for any person out there who is starting or working on a blog. Even bloggers who have been at it for a while would benefit from some of the information involved.
Some of the things I learned were. . .
- Web hosting and creating my own domain name
- How to use a Blogger, WordPress or Tumblr blog
- Commenting – basically anything you can think of including blocking spam
- Podcasting, using photos, using video
- Advertising on the blog
- Statistics and analytics
- Promoting the blog
I ended up with sticky notes all over this book that contained great tidbits of information I can add to my blog to make it better, as well as software, plug-ins, applications, and other blogs I can use as resources.
If you’re interested in starting a blog or have one and want to make it better, check out Blogging for Dummies!
What is one of your favorite blogs or websites? It doesn’t have to be book related!
You blogged about the book about blogging! HA!

I could use this book! When I started I just flew by the seat of my pants. I still do that now, lol

Actually, it’d be perfect for you now. I started when I began blogging, took a break, and picked it back up. I gained a lot more information now that I’ve been blogging for a little while. Check it out at the bookstore, but it probably would be really helpful!

I didn’t know a book like this could exist! You are a professional now, I suppose 😉
It might be interesting, because I’m a blogger for four years now, but I must confess I don’t know anything about pluggins and things to improve my blog.

The book is really helpful! You could look that stuff up online, too, but I love how Blogging for Dummies kept it really simple and easy to understand.

I have to try one of those Dummies books one day, they look so informative without being too much. I’ve too many favourite sites to pick, I suppose I ought to say Twitter because I’m on it so much!

I stayed away from the Dummies in the past, but now I would turn to a Dummies in a heartbeat!

Also check out SOCIAL NETWORKING FOR CAREER SUCCESS by Miriam Salpeter. It’s the book I used to start my own blog, BOOK MAVEN’S PICKS, and I must say that I’m extremely happy with the results. It’s a great, detailed, and very helpful book to promote your personal brand online.
I’ve written a book review about it here: http://bookmavenpicks.wordpress.com/2012/09/22/social-networking-for-career-success-by-miriam-salpeter/
Feel free to check it out.

Looks interesting. I haven’t heard a Dummies book before either, but would benefit if I read this. Funny, Dummies are published by my company. Haha

Having read this I thought it was extremely informative. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to put this short article together. I once again find myself spending a significant amount of time both reading and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!
